Genetic Engineering Workshop

In October, two Form 6 Biology classes attended a Genetic Engineering Workshop organized by The Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups. Students explored the principles, opportunities, and risks of genetically modified (GM) foods, as well as detection methods used in the field.

During the workshop, students had the opportunity to test commercially available food products for genetic modification using advanced biotechnology equipment, including polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and gel electrophoresis techniques.

This hands-on experience deepened students’ understanding of modern genetic science while developing their practical laboratory skills. The interactive session provided valuable insights into this cutting-edge field and proved to be a rewarding learning experience for all participants.
